Costa del Silencio - Concept

The strongly simplified map of Tenerife shows Costa del Silencio in the south of Tenerife. This place lies between the protected area " Montaña Amarilla " - yellow mountain - and the fishing village Las Galletas with the delightful harbour and the wonderful promenade by the Ocean. In our point of view we understand under Costa del Silencio also the adjacent peripheral areas Las Galletas and " Montaña Amarilla ".

Costa del Silencio - Zona Residencial

Most inhabitants of this village are Canarian. The tourists inhabit predominantly, called "Urbanizations", which are typical for Costa del Silencio and comprise a total of 100 to 400 apartments. Each urbanization has its own characteristics. Inhabitants from all areas of the world live either as owners themselves in these apartments or rented out to tourists for short or long-term periods. The long-term holiday-makers spend here between 3 and 6 months in the year, mainly for health reasons. The total population of Costa del Silencio comprises about 4000 registered persons.

Chasna C

Chasna C is a urbanization - built approximately 35 years ago - with 215 apartments. Of these about 180 apartments are the property of Germans. There is a tradition that the apartments are often inherited from generation to generation. Cleanliness and general order are typical characteristics of this Urbanization. Under these conditions it is not amazing that free apartments find quick new buyers.

Meanwhile, a community has grown here which has become  their second homeland in Costa del Silencio.

My experience in Tenerife:
1982 I visited fort he first time Tenerife and spent my vacation in the south of the island. The first impressions were so positive that I had decided to buy an apartment in Costa del Silencio. Since 1983 I can live here and spend there each year the winter. I do not regret this decision till today. Due to the climate conditions it is possible for me to swim nearly every day in the Ocean or to undertake mountain trips or walks along the Atlantic coast.

Years later similar complexes  with the same basic idea were built in Costa del Silincio similar to Chasna C, Later on Costa del Silencio developed itself into a typical " Zona Residencial " which was gradually Improved.  

Concept  for Costa del Silencio 

The economic basis of Costa del Silencio isI closely connected with tourism. It is the most important economic basis of this region. To be able to exist successfully in the international competition, two presuppositions must be created fundamentally:

1. Mainly tourists must be won for this place, who prefer the long-term vacation for their health.
2. It is absolutely necessary that the fundamental conditions exist for the tourists. These five presuppositions are specified in the category "quality tourism":

Bases:

1. The most important basis for the Costa del Silencio is the healthy climate with the sunshine and the Atlantic Ocean.
2. Costa del Silencio is a " Zona Residencial " with predominantly low houses and buildings with standard apartments.

In addition, come the other five conditions mentioned earlier which must be fulfilled to be arranged in the category "quality tourism":

• Security - task of the police 
• Tranquility - there is the law of the noise control " Nueva Ordenanza Municipal de Arona "
• Cleanliness
• The protection of the environment - " midmonth ambiance "

The zones of Costa del Silencio and TenBel been in recent years neglected. The residents felt the authorities abandoned and had very little confidence. With the implementation of the above-mentioned projects is the phase of the renewal of Costa del Silencio a "Zona residencial turística" has been initiated. The Ayuntamiento de Arona stresses to be ready for substantial economic resources for the infrastructure, streets and gardens, so that this zone to a role model for tourism on the island can be - what Costa del Silencio well deserved.

Main request of our activities is namely Strong of the consciousness of the importance(meaning) of the tourism for the Costa del Silencio with the stress " Zona residencial de calidad turistica ". The reaching of a quality tourism cannot be reached only by the authorities, but only in co-operation and in the trust(confidence) between inhabitants and authorities. Besides, the draft should show the common aim and understanding for the separate ones.

By becoming known of the notion " Amigos Costa del Silencio " is promoted the contact preparation and the understanding with the inhabitants and tourists and can perform valuable help. We are to be realized endeavoured our Amigos draft together together with the Canary institutions, namely with the Ayuntamiento de Arona and the Cabildo de Tenerife.
