Costa del SilencioThe strongly simplified map of Tenerife shows Costa del Silencio in the south of Tenerife. This place lies between the protected area " Montaña Amarilla " - yellow mountain - and the fishing village Las Galletas with the delightful harbour and the wonderful promenade by the Ocean. In our point of view we include under Costa del Silencio also the adjacent peripheral areas Las Galletas and "Montaña Amarilla".
Costa del Silencio - Zona Residencial
Most inhabitants of this village are Canarians. The tourists inhabit predominantly, called "Urbanizations", which are typical for Costa del Silencio and comprise a total of 100 to 400 apartments. There are no hotels. Each urbanization has its own characteristics and its Inhabitants come here from many different parts of the world. They live either as owners themselves in these apartments or rented out to tourists for short or long-term periods. The long-term holiday-makers spend here between 3 and 6 months in the year, mainly for health reasons. The total population of Costa del Silencio comprises about 4000 registered persons.

Renovation of the infrastructure of Costa del Silencio:
The principal concept of the new renovation of the infrastructure of Costa del Silencio is the fact that the leading characteristic of Costa del Silencio is a “zona residencial de calidad turística”. The central planning is the focussing on the path for walking on and not for traffic. So you will see large footpaths that have been broadened on the left and the right side of the main road. Certain areas are reserved for avenues of trees and plants and benches are placed for resting. Most of the streets are a one-way traffic with a limited speed of 40 km per hour. The above map demonstrates that the new renovated streets are a circular in design. This construction work is a historic event for Costa del Silencio and is one of the factors that Costa del Silencio is on the way of being a “Zona residencial de calidad turística” of an international standard. The results of these hard and expensive works of a period of about one and a half years you can see on the photos from start to finish. This project of renovation the infrastructure is a dream that has finally been achieved. Therefore we kindly ask residents and tourists to take responsibility for respecting and care taking to keep Costa del Silencio an attractive and beautiful residential area.

The zones of Costa del Silencio and TenBel had been neglected in recent years. The residents felt abandoned by the authorities and therefore they had very little confidence in them. With the implementation of the above-mentioned projects has been initiated the phase of the renewal of Costa del Silencio to a "Zona residencial turística". The Ayuntamiento de Arona stresses to be ready for substantial economic resources for the infrastructure, streets and gardens, so that this zone can play a model role for tourism on the island - what Costa del Silencio well deserved.

Las Galletas - the fishing villageLas Galletas is a fishing village, which is predominantly inhabited by Canarierns. The modern fishing port with the promenade at the Ocean is a popular trip. One sees the fishing boats and the divers boats returning home. The fishery stands offer the freshly caught fish. A cultural centre offers cultural activities. Las Galletas is directly connected with Costa del Silencio. Both places form a unit.
